Personalised Father's Day Gifts That Last: A Maidstone Studio's Guide for 2026

· 4 min read

Father's Day falls on Sunday 21 June this year. Here's how to give Dad something he'll still treasure long after the day is over.

Every June, the shops fill with the same things: novelty socks, "World's Best Dad" mugs, another tie he'll never wear. They're given with love, and forgotten by July.

But some gifts don't get put in a drawer. The ones that matter end up on a wall, looked at every day for years. That's the kind of gift this guide is about.

We're a small studio in Maidstone, Kent, and we spend our days turning people's photographs into framed prints that are built to last a lifetime. Here's our honest guide to choosing a Father's Day gift that means something — and a few ideas drawn from what our customers ask for most.

Why a framed photo beats a last-minute gift

There's nothing wrong with a good bottle or a day out. But think about what your dad actually keeps. It's rarely the expensive thing — it's the photo of him holding you as a baby, the family holiday everyone remembers, the picture of him with his own father.

A framed print takes one of those moments and gives it a permanent place. Every time he walks past it, it's a small reminder. That's something a gift card can't do.

And unlike a quick high-street print, a proper fine art print is made to survive. We print on Hahnemühle archival paper using pigment inks — the same standards used by galleries — so the image won't yellow or fade for generations, as long as it's kept out of direct sunlight.

Five Father's Day ideas from our studio

1. A framed photo of three generations

If your dad is also a grandfather, a single framed photo of him, you, and your children is one of the most quietly powerful gifts there is. It says something words struggle to.

2. His favourite photo, printed properly

Most of us have that photo — the one on his phone he shows everyone. Printed at size on fine art paper and framed in solid wood, it stops being a phone snap and becomes a piece he can hang.

3. A restored old photograph

If you have a faded or damaged photo of your dad as a young man — or of his own parents — we can carefully restore it and bring it back to life, even adding natural colour to a black-and-white image. For many dads, seeing a long-lost photo restored is more moving than anything new.

4. A personalised print with his own words

A favourite saying of his, an important date, the name of the family home — added to a print, it becomes entirely his. Small details like this turn a nice gift into a personal one.

5. A canvas for the man who doesn't "do" frames

Some dads find framed art a bit formal. A stretched canvas of a landscape he loves, a beloved pet, or a place that means something to him sits more casually on a wall — and still lasts.

How to get it ready in time

Father's Day is Sunday 21 June 2026. Because every piece is made to order by hand, we ask for a little time:

  • Send us your photo early. Once we have your image, we send a free digital proof for you to approve before anything is printed.
  • Allow 3 to 5 working days for printing, framing and finishing once you've approved the proof.
  • Order by mid-June to be comfortable. The earlier the better — good things shouldn't be rushed.

You can visit us at our Royal Star Arcade studio in Maidstone, or order online and have it sent straight to you — or directly to your dad, gift-wrapped.

A gift that's still there next Father's Day

The best Father's Day gifts aren't the ones that get used up. They're the ones that are still on the wall a year later, and ten years after that.

If there's a photograph that means something to your family, this is a lovely reason to finally get it framed properly.
